Got back from eclipse at 1 AM. 2 hours drive up, 10 hours drive back.

Eclipse prep

Have eclipse viewing site selected. Have packing list written. Today (Saturday) is shopping for last items and building pinhole camera and shadow band experiments. Experiment #1 = GoPro running at max frame rate pointed at white board facing sun. Experiment #2 = light sensor converted into audio signal and captured at 44 KHz by MacBook Pro; getting audio into a MBP’s headphone jack is a little tricky but doable (requires a TRRS connector and hooking things up in a certain order). Tomorrow (Sunday) is packing and driving.

Looking for music to play during the eclipse? Look no further than Brian Eno’s “St. Elmo’s Fire” (Another Green World, 1975). There are also a few interesting covers of this if the style doesn’t suit you, but none of them have Robert Fripp’s scorching “ions in the aether” guitar solo.
